감독: 엽위신
배우 견자단에 대해 관심을 가지게 된 것은 비교적 최근의 일입니다. 한국에서의 인지도는 다소 낮은 편이지만, 중화권에서는 여느 홍콩 스타 못지않은 영향력을 지닌 배우라는 사실을 씨네21의 기사를 검색하던 중 알게 되었습니다. 저 역시 무의식적으로 편견을 가진 속물적인 시선을 가지고 있었던 것은 아닌가 돌아보게 되었습니다.
견자단에 대한 호감이 급상승한 것도 그 기사를 읽은 후부터였으며, 이후 그의 영화 속 액션을 접했을 때 이전에는 느껴보지 못했던 감탄을 하게 되었습니다. 이러한 경험을 통해 사물을 바라보는 나 자신의 이기적이고 주관적인 태도를 스스로 반성할 수 있는 계기가 되었다고 말한다면 다소 과장된 표현일까요? 어찌 되었든, 엽위신 감독의 이 액션 영화는 적당한 무게감을 지니면서도 상당히 흥미로운 작품이었습니다.

My interest in actor Donnie Yen developed relatively recently. Although his recognition in South Korea is somewhat low, I discovered through an article in Cine21 that he holds a significant presence in the Chinese-speaking world, comparable to other major Hong Kong stars. This realization made me reflect on whether I had unconsciously held a superficial and biased perspective.
My admiration for Donnie Yen surged after reading that article, and when I later watched his action scenes in films, I found myself genuinely amazed in a way I had never experienced before. If I were to say that this experience gave me an opportunity to critically reflect on my own self-centered and subjective view of things, would that be an overstatement? Regardless, director Wilson Yip’s action film carries just the right weight and is undeniably engaging.
