혼자만의 홍상수 감독 특별전을 열어, 주말 이틀 동안 그의 작품들로 시간을 채워 나갔습니다. 극장전을 감상했지만, 솔직히 큰 흥미를 느끼지는 못했습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 홍상수 감독의 영화에는 몇 가지 뚜렷한 특징이 있습니다. 독특하면서도 일관된 카메라 워크, 배우들의 대사에 집중하도록 만드는 줌-인 기법, 그리고 한 씬을 촬영할 때 거의 예외 없이 하나의 앵글을 고정하여 활용하는 방식 등이 그렇습니다. 또한, 그의 영화에서 대사는 흥미로운 요소 중 하나입니다.
어떤 사람들은 홍 감독의 대사가 매우 현실적이고 예리하다고 놀라워하지만, 개인적으로는 그보다 배우들의 감정이 과하게 드러나는 대사들이 다소 부담스럽게 느껴지기도 합니다. 물론 대사 자체는 재미있다고 생각합니다.
흥미로운 점은, 홍상수 감독이 주로 기용하는 배우들이 대부분 제가 좋아하는 배우들이라는 사실입니다. 이를 보면, 감독과 제가 배우를 바라보는 취향이 비슷한 것일지도 모르겠습니다.
I decided to hold my own Hong Sang-soo retrospective, spending two consecutive weekend days watching his films. I watched Tale of Cinema, but to be honest, I didn’t find it particularly engaging.
That said, there are several distinctive characteristics in Hong Sang-soo's films. His cinematography is uniquely consistent, often employing zoom-ins to draw attention to actors' dialogues, and he almost always keeps a fixed camera angle for each scene. Additionally, his dialogues are one of the most interesting aspects of his films.
Some people are impressed by how sharp and realistic his dialogues are, but for me, what stands out more—though I'm not sure if it's intentional—is that the overly emotional delivery of lines by the actors sometimes feels a bit overwhelming. Still, I do find the dialogue itself entertaining.
What’s particularly intriguing is that most of the actors Hong Sang-soo frequently works with are ones I personally like. Perhaps this means that the director and I share a similar taste in actors.
